Going Home

I sang at a memorial service Saturday for one of the ladies at the care facility where I teach and preach. Her name is Jean. One Sunday I taught on "Ye must be born again" (John chapter 3). She looked up part way through the lesson and asked "Is it too late for me?”. “Oh God, please use me to help my friend Jean” I silently prayed. "No Jean, it is not too late for you", came the simple answer. We spent quite a bit of time that day going through the scriptures together so that she would understand that God says…

We are all sinners:

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 3:23

The penalty of sin is death:

For the wages of sin is death...

Romans 6:23

Christ paid that penalty for us:

For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

I Peter 3:18

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Salvation is only by grace through faith (not by our own works):

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9

We must repent:

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

II Peter 3:9

We must receive him:

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

John 1:12

Becoming a son of God is being born again.

Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

John 3:7

Jean believed what God was telling her in his word, and she wanted Christ as her Savior. She prayed silently and asked God to save her from her sins. I gave her a "Super Large Print" Bible. A staff member told me that she would read it for hours day and night.

A few weeks later, Jean went home to be with her Saviour.
