“Wanted: Failures - See Bible for Details”
Have you ever seen an advertisement asking for failures?
I never have. But did you know that God is advertising for failures?
“For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.”
I Corinthians 1:26-29
You see, God says that we have all failed him
“What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”
(Romans 3:9-10)
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
(Romans 3:23)
“For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.”
(Galatians 3:10)
“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”
(James 2:10)
But God wants us to come to him as failures
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
(Romans 5:8)
“But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
(Matthew 9:13)
David failed God, and yet God used him be a great king
and to write many of the Psalms
“Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.”
(II Samuel 12:9)
Peter failed God and yet God used him to write
two books of the Bible and perform great miracles
“And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.”
(Luke 22:61-62)
Paul failed God and yet God used him to write much of the New
Testament and to establish churches throughout the world
“For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle,
because I persecuted the church of God.”
(1 Corinthians 15:9)
The publican failed God, and yet God justified him
“And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”
(Luke 18:13-14)
Will you answer God’s advertisement?
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
(Isaiah 1:18)
“And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners? When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
(Mark 2:16-17)
